Police State no. 1

The other day I went to get my passport renewed! Goodbye to all the memorable exotic stamps from around the world and welcome to a new slick looking re-designed and top-secure national certific. Beside the humiliation of paying the local photodealer for an interpretation of me on a rainy Thursday, that I now have to show many future custom officers, it is also a kinda pricy affair to get a new passport. 600 dkr.

But it turns out that the money was well spend as I gained some pretty interesting insight in the mindset of Copenhagen Police Department. after using my credit-card I got a receite with stating the follow headings “KBH POLITI STAT 1″. hmmm, Cph police state 1, at least they are open about it, but they are apparently even proud of it.
I got my passport without to much hazzle, sure. But next time, who knows?

Ghost talk

DELCA-boy-wonder Troels B. Folmann is airplaying the Ghost-realm idea that we are launching here at the ITU on Danish Broadcast Coporation Radio P1. Take a listen here….
(It is mostly in danish, though – can’t change that! But Troels talks so smooth that I guess everyone will enjoy it!!)

Past, present and future 2010

While looking at fingerwhisper at NTT DoCoMo, Japanese marketleader on expanding ubiquity in hightech Japan, wavemakers in 3G, GPS, RFID and what not. I found this little demo feature on a vision for technology in 2010 (that would be 2030 in Denmark!?). I found some pretty crazy visions for the future embeddedness of everyday communication technology, like the PDA, videophone etc. etc. build into the shirtsleeve (don’t wanna see the washing-proscript on that one!). But the feature is a real heartbreaker intermingling technology with the must profound things in life: freinds, familiy, childhood and… clay!

NOlympics!

The Olympics is about half way through and I have seen somewhere between 2 to 3 minuttes of the gigantic global event. I guess, it is kinda hard to see, why one should spend time on sports where it is not always obvious what the criteria for winning is!? Take, gymnastics or fancy diving. In these disciplines, I cannot make out exactly what the winner does sooo much better than all the rest! And also these “perfection-of-body” sports, I must admit, is really only worth watching when things go wrong!! Like this, this, this, this, this, and this. Auuuch, your all my winners!

Lost in public communication!

The old saying “practice what you preach” finally lost all meaning to me! You see, I have been seeing these graffiti tags all over town. Call me naive and all, but up until now I thougth, that has got to be a meta-meta-thing. but apparently, this is an iniative by the City administration of Copenhagen. I’m confused! So let’s just define real street art

Goooodnigth! Crazy cruel world..!

Now how paranoid can you get!? A piece of furniture the Quantum Sleeper promise to protect your sweet dreams from bioChemical teorist attacks, natural disasters, kidnappers and stalkers etc., as the vendor claims: “The Quantum Sleeper is the ultimate in protection, entertainment and communications, ALL ROLLED UP IN ONE”…! The suburbian sarcophagus of post-9/11-fear comes enabled for CD player, DVD Screen with PC hookup, Microwave, Refrigerator, cellular Phones, CB and Short-wave Radios. M’kay sure, sounds perfect! But can you be sure that it will also keep the really scarry nightmares away from you!?

New Head. Come out, come out, where ever you are?

A job position is open as Head of Department of Digital Aesthetics & Communication where I am currently employed. The Head will be leading a strong research-team, consisting of some of the finest and brightest kids on the blog…sorry, block!
I know there are a number of fine candidates for the position out there. But we are all for experiments in DiAC, and time is ample to try something radical different. So, I find it hard to see who can compete with my personal candidate for a new Head: Stelarcs “Prosthetic Head” of Department.

Ok seriously, Apply!

When lightning strikes in Italy?

After hours, days, weeks and months of thought, discussion, sketching, testing, building, revising, analysing, critiquing and revising again the Ivera Institute in Italy presents their 2004 graduate students work. Fantastic all around, but i’m really excited about Aparna Rao’s Household Objects in the Act project. Crazy stuff!

  • Exclusive: How Google’s Algorithm Rules the Web | Magazine 2010/02/27
The story of Google’s algorithm begins with PageRank, the system invented in 1997 by cofounder Larry Page while he was a grad student at Stanford. Page’s now legendary insight was to rate pages based on the number and importance of links that pointed to them — to use the collective intelligence of the Web itself to determine which sites were most relevant. It was a simple and powerful concept, and — as Google quickly became the most successful search engine on the Web — Page and cofounder Sergey Brin credited PageRank as their company’s fundamental innovation.
